The Athletic Rider: The Missing Link

You have the desire to get fit, and you know what you need to do to accomplish your goals. But do you have accountability? Personal trainer Leah Hinnefeld explains.

From Leah:

Have you joined a gym or purchased a home rider fitness program only to find yourself facing denim jacket weather and wondering where all the results were hiding (or maybe hopeful that winter was around the corner to hide those lack of results)? Do you know someone that always seems to be facing yet another “Day 1” of her latest plan to get fit to ride better?

Whether someone is new to fitness, returning to fitness or repeatedly restarting her fitness program, there is one key ingredient that is the secret sauce to finding success once and for all. This secret sauce is so important to success that I don’t think it should be secret at all. It is one of the three cornerstones of the Rider Fitness programs offered by The Athletic Rider.

Accountability.

Now don’t get me wrong, having a fitness program developed to help you reach your goals and having an appropriate nutrition program are both very important cornerstones. Most people actually know that fitness + nutrition are needed to have a chance for success. The missing link that most people don’t know or give enough credit is without question accountability. That’s right!

Fitness + Nutrition + Accountability = Success

Here is another secret that finally needs to come out in the open-even the most fit person that you know has a day (or even a season of life) where he or she is not motivated to work out. Sure, there are those few highly motivated people that will continue a habit of fitness even when facing a challenging day. BUT for the rest of us, installing some safety net of accountability can be the difference between not right now and not ever.

For some people, a friend as an accountability partner can be enough. Another may need to hire a personal trainer. For years I had a personal trainer three times a week — not because I needed help with what to do. I knew I needed help with accountability. Funny enough, since becoming a Rider Fitness coach I am even more consistent in my workouts than before because I feel accountable to those riders that I coach.

In other words:

  • The knowing what to do won’t create results without creating consistency, and
  • Consistency is most reliably created through daily accountability.

No matter what stage of fitness you are facing — beginner to advanced athlete!
