5 Free Horses In Need of Forever Homes
We often laugh at “Bad Ads” here on Horse Nation, but I think it’s time to feature a few really good ones too. Here are five horses searching for their forever home and, oh yeah, they’re free!
Orson – South Dakota
Foal Date: 1999
16.1 hh
Paint Gelding
“Orson is chronically slightly lame and cannot be ridden but is comfortable and could carry grandkids around on a leadline. He was trained low-level dressage and has had all the handling commensurate with that, i.e. trailers, baths, etc. He loves attention and comes to the gate whickering hello. I put a lot of money into veterinary care and at this point he is unlikely to need more (aside from the usual all horses need). He has a gorgeous forelock and tail, not to mention long eyelashes on his big brown puppy eyes– important for a lawn ornament ; ) Up to date on vaccinations, floating, deworming. Right side of his face has slight nerve damage (from cancer) which causes drooping eyelids on the right and does not require special care.”

Hank – Pennsylvania
Foal Date: 2003
14.1 hh
Bay Gelding
AQHA registered
“This lovable boy deserves someone who has time to ride him and love on him – as he has some stifle arthritis, he would best be served with a slighter built rider who can give him consistent low level work a few days a week – perhaps with a few local schooling shows throughout the season. Hank has been unfairly sitting due to my daughters being away at college and work.
He could make a wonderful addition to a small lesson program – he’s bored and wants something to do and consistent work should help him to be more comfortable! Hank has helped my girls win many ribbons and loves shows!”

BLB – Massachusetts
Foal Date: 1996
16.2 hh
Bay Gelding
Thoroughbred
“BLB has lots and lots of experience in the equitation ring. He came to Mount Holyoke from a TOP “A” show barn and has excellent training. He is a very sensible type who’s been there and done that. He is suitable for intermediate and above riders. He is an absolute packer at the 2’6” level. He does counter canter, flying changes, lateral movements and jumps the jumps in an honest manner. He is currently rehabilitating from a hind suspensory injury and doing well. This is a great opportunity for someone willing to invest some time to bring back a real gentleman.”

Bosco and Maggie – Massachusetts
Foal Date: 1994
17 hh
Black Gelding
Thoroughbred/Percheron
“Bosco is an incredibly friendly big boy. He has been in our dressage program for many years and was voted our region’s IDA horse of the year 2013. Bosco has arthritis in his neck that impacts his way of going. He is available primarily for companionship. If you would be interested in VERY light riding please feel free to call and discuss.”
Foal Date: 2000
15.2 hh
Grey Mare
Thoroughbred
“Maggie is a 14yo, grey, TB mare for whom we are seeking the perfect forever home. She has a background in hunters and equitation and was used for about a year in our school program. She has navicular changes and does not remain sound in regular walk-trot-canter work. However, she is comfortable at the walk and great on the trail! She is also outstanding on the ground and can be handled by kids. She is happy to be turned out by herself or with other horses.”
