Share a Guinness, It’s St. Patrick’s Day!
The dark beer has been a traditional feed additive of Irish trainers for decades.
One of the most famous equine drinkers is Zenyatta. Trainer Joe Shirreffs told “60 Minutes”: “We give her oats, we add a little bit of aloe vera juice and then if she has been really good then I give her a Guinness.”
Musket Man, another race horse, is said to drink one can a day.
BioStar Eq has an informative article on just why Guinness may be a horsey favorite with key ingredients like hops, malted barley, yeast and water…ingredients that may help horses recover from stress as well as be a digestive aid.
So what do you think Horse Nation? Will you share a Guinness with your horses tonight?
