SpectraVET Performance of the Week: USEF International Horse of the Year, Simon
When the USEF handed out its year-end awards last weekend, it came has no surprise that this show jumping phenom took top honors.

Piloted by Beezie Madden, who was named USEF Equestrian of the Year for the third time, Simon had a dynamite 2013, with top finishes in both national and international competition. The pair’s biggest win came in April at the Rolex/FEI World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The World Cup week’s action boiled down to a heart-pounding jump-off on Sunday between London Olympic gold medalist Steve Guerdat on Nino des Buissonnets (Switzerland) and Beezie Madden on Simon (USA). Steve’s pedal-to-the-metal, turn-and-burn round resulted in two costly rails; Beezie took a more conservative approach and kept all the rails up for the win.
The jump-off between Guerdat and Madden was, by far, one of my favorite moments of equestrian competition in 2013. You can feel the tension in the air!
