SpectraVET Classic Performance of the Week
Today we’re featuring the great American show jumper and legendary Trakehner sire Abdullah.
Bred in Canada, the statuesque grey stallion began his career in the dressage and eventing worlds before moving on to excel in the show jumping arena. Ridden by Debbie Stephens, Joe Fargis and Conrad Homeld, his accomplishments were numerous: a team gold and individual silver at the 1984 Olympics in L.A., a win at the 1985 World Cup Final in Berlin, and team gold and individual silver at the World Championships In Aachen.
Abdullah went on to become a successful breeding stallion at Williamsburg Farm in New York, siring seven USEF Horses of the Year in both the hunter and jumper disciplines. His progeny have competed internationally in the Olympics, World Championships and World Cup Finals. Although he passed away in 2000 at the age of 29, thanks to frozen semen it is still possible to breed to the legendary stallion.
Here is Abdullah with Conrad Homfeld at the 1986 World Championships in Aachen where, at age 15, the stallion helped the United States clinch team gold.
