SpectraVET Classic Performance of the Week: Nick Skelton & Lastic
This 1978 video of a then 21-year-old Nick Skelton soaring over a 7′ 7.4″ high jump at Olympia makes me a little weak in the knees.
Skelton was a member of Britain’s gold medal winning show jumping team at the London Olympic Games in 2012 and has multiple world and European championship titles to his name. At the time he set this British high jump record, though, Nick was still a bit wet behind the ears.
“It was quite scary as the high-jump was wider and I think more difficult and daunting than the wall and he was not a big horse” Nick explains on NickSkelton.com. “After Lastic smashed through it the first time I was ready to leave the arena but I was told to go back in and in those days I did as I was told.”
