SpectraVET Classic Performance of the Week
Each week we spotlight a history-making moment by an equine legend–like this video of Gem Twist’s spectacular performance at the 1990 World Championships in Stockholm.
An American thoroughbred bred by Frank Chapot, Gem Twist is regarded as one of the most incredible show-jumpers in history. He achieved international success between 1985 and 1997 with three different riders: Greg Best (up to 1992), Leslie Howard (1992-1995), and Laura Chapot (1995 onward). His accomplishments include two silver medals at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, three “American Grand Prix Association Horse of the Year” titles, $800,000 in lifetime earnings, and induction into the United States Show Jumping Hall of Fame in 2002. Two genetic clones of Gem Twist were subsequently foaled after his death in 2006: Gemini and Murka’s Gem.
Here he is with Greg Best in the irons at the 1990 World Championships, where he was named “World’s Best Horse.”
