The Secret Life of McKenna & Dorito (& Gigi!)

Look who’s got a new ride! Horse Nation junior blogger McKenna Oxenden introduces us to the newest equine member of her family.

Well Horse Nation,

I told you I would be having big news coming soon. Guess what?! Today’s the day of the news!!!!

*drum roll please*

I bought a horse! Yep, that’s right, I am the proud owner of a beautiful mare! “Gossip Girl,” or Gigi, is a 15.2-hand, 8-year-old Trakhener/Connemara cross who has done a few novices and was supposed to go training level this weekend until I bought her!

Where did I get her from you ask? Funny you ask! One of the other working students at Emily’s had Gigi as a resale project. I have been able to ride her a bit this summer already, and last week the cards just fell into place. BAM! New pony!

She is going to be a great horse to learn on. She’s bold, nice on the flat, and forgiving. My biggest struggle on her is adjusting to how sensitive she is to all of my aids and, of course, my number one hardest thing is to trust her and myself while jumping.

We will be competing this weekend in the novice at Fair Hill, so fingers crossed I get my $h!t together!!

Quick shout-outs to Team Brickland with Emily and husband Jeff finishing 7th and 8th respectively in their training divisions at Millbrook Horse Trials, and to Emily who finished 5th in advanced-A and to her posting one of three double clear rounds in her division! Last, but not least, a shout-out to Lucy Cheney who finished 7th in her prelim division.

This is my last full week at Brickland, so I’m going to make the most of it and hopefully all of Team Brickland will rock it this weekend!
