Tuesday Morning Feed from Dubarry

I’ve always been a late bloomer to social media sorts of things. By the time I got on LiveJournal, everybody was on MySpace. By the time I got to MySpace, everybody was on Facebook. And truthfully, Twitter still sort of annoys me.

Nonetheless, I feel like I’m finally 100% strapped in to the social media bandwagon. I understand the culture’s importance–it’s revolutionized the way we share and talk about information and ideas. This morning, I read in the news that demand for Facebook shares, expected to begin trading on Friday, is so high, they’re actually raising the shares’ price. The 8-year old company, which is run by a hoodie-wearing twentysomething who looks like someone John might play video games with, has 900 million users worldwide and, by the end of the week, could be worth more than U.S. corporate giants like Disney, Ford and Kraft food.

My point is, social media is here to stay, and Horse Nation is all about learning to how to use it in a way that makes YOU want to “like” us. Typically, we’ve been using Facebook and Twitter to post links to stories and the occasional photo, but I think the potential here is endless: contests, surveys, discussion, etc. Ideas?
